MAPFRE & Insurers
Systematically Underpaying policyholders...
MAPFRE is the largest Spanish insurance company in the world and the third largest insurance group in Latin America, with a growing presence in other markets such as North America. While the Company brands itself in Puerto Rico as a trustworthy partner who takes care of its policyholders, experience on the ground tells a different story. The company has billions of dollars in unpaid damages to claimants, which include condominiums, government agencies and municipalities. The lack of capital inflow from insurance proceeds has contributed to the stunted recovery of the Commonwealth.
To add insult to injury, MAPFRE has significantly increased the premiums it is charging policyholders for insurance.

Profits over People
In its 2019 semi-annual report the company reported a 61% jump in profitability over the prior period. It is time the insurance companies be held responsible for honoring the insurance policies they underwrite. A failure to do so will lead to the continued abuse of policyholders, many of whom lack the capital and expertise to seek remedy to mitigate such transgressions. |
